LVL beams in Melbourne
Greenhill Timbers stocks MeySPAN LVL 14 at our yard at 170 Settlement Road, Thomastown, with pickup or delivery across Melbourne and regional Victoria. LVL, laminated veneer lumber, is made from thin veneers glued with the grain running one way, so a beam is straight, consistent and stronger for its size than sawn pine. It is the usual answer when a lintel, bearer, joist or rafter outgrows what solid timber can span.
Sizes we stock
90, 120, 140, 150, 190, 200, 240, 300, 360 and 400 × 45 mm, plus 300 × 63 mm, in lengths from 2.4 m to 3.9 m off the shelf, from $25.95 a length for 90 × 45. Longer lengths can be ordered. Every size is F17 stress grade with an E14 stiffness rating, made to AS/NZS 4357, and H2 treated against termites for use inside the building envelope.
Where it goes
Lintels over windows and doors, floor bearers and joists on long spans, roof beams and rafters, and deck bearers under a roof. Because LVL is H2 treated, not H3, keep it dry: for a beam exposed to weather use H3 treated pine, or wrap and flash the LVL.
Choosing a size
Span tables from the manufacturer or AS 1684 set the size for the span and load. Send us the beam schedule from your plans and we will match sizes and lengths with the least waste; your engineer signs off anything carrying a roof.
