Working with Merbau

Merbau is dense, so pre-drill and keep fixings 12 mm from the ends, and use stainless steel within 1 km of the coast. It bleeds tannin for the first few months, so wash the timber down and oil every face and cut end before fixing, then recoat yearly or let it weather to silver-grey. CUTEK and Intergrain oils are in decking oil and paint. For deck boards, see Merbau decking.
