Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring in Melbourne
Greenhill Timbers stocks laminate flooring at our showroom at 170 Settlement Road, Thomastown, with pickup or delivery across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Laminate is a printed timber-look layer under a hard wear surface on a high-density fibreboard (HDF) core. The boards click together and float over underlay, which makes it quick to lay and the lowest-cost way to get a timber look through a whole house.
Ranges we stock
12 mm laminate in Shell and Drizzle: 1215 × 195 mm boards with an AC4 wear rating and a click-lock joint.

Reflections GenCore+ 12 mm: AC4 rated, with a matte embossed surface and a drop-lock joint; the maker lists it as steam-mop friendly and suitable over hydronic heated slabs. Laminate, hybrid or engineered?
Laminate costs the least and its wear surface stands up well to scratches, which suits bedrooms, living areas and rental properties. The HDF core swells if water sits on it, so for kitchens, laundries and bathrooms choose hybrid flooring, which has a waterproof core. If you want real timber underfoot, look at engineered flooring.
Laying it
Laminate floats over a flat, dry subfloor on underlay. Leave the expansion gap the maker specifies at every wall and doorway and cover it with skirting. Underlay and floor protection are in flooring accessories. Tell us the room sizes and we will work out packs, with about 10% for cuts. Call 03 9465 9875.
Questions we get asked about laminate flooring
Is laminate flooring waterproof?
No. The surface sheds spills, and some ranges carry a water-resistance warranty (48 hours on Oakleaf HD Plus), but the HDF core swells if water gets into the joints. Wipe spills up promptly and use hybrid flooring in wet rooms.
What does AC4 mean on laminate flooring?
AC is the abrasion class in the European laminate standard EN 13329. AC3 covers heavy residential use and AC4 covers general commercial use, so an AC4 floor has wear resistance to spare in a home.
Can laminate flooring go over tiles or concrete?
Yes, as a floating floor, as long as the surface is flat, dry and sound. Over a concrete slab use an underlay with a moisture barrier.
What thickness of laminate flooring is best?
12 mm boards feel more solid underfoot and are quieter to walk on than 7 or 8 mm boards, and the longer, wider 12 mm formats look closer to real timber planks. That is why most of the laminate we stock is 12 mm.
