Composite Decking
Composite decking in Melbourne
Greenhill Timbers stocks composite decking at our yard at 170 Settlement Road, Thomastown, with pickup or delivery across Melbourne and regional Victoria, from seven brands, with the clips, fascia, screws and frame to go with it. Composite boards are wood fibre and recycled plastic extruded into a board and, in every current range we stock, wrapped in a polymer cap that carries the colour and resists stains and fading. They never need oiling or sanding.

Capped composite or PVC?
Capped composite has a wood-fibre core and is the usual choice. Full PVC boards such as EVERTEX and WoodEvo ADVANCED have no wood fibre at all, so they are lighter and the pick around pools and for ground-level decks that stay damp.
Building with composite
Most brands specify joists at 400 mm centres, closer for diagonal boards, and hidden clips in the grooved edge rather than face screws. Boards expand along their length with heat, so leave the end gaps the brand’s guide asks for. The frame is the same as a timber deck: H3 treated pine joists on stirrups, or the ClickDeck aluminium subframe for a frame that never rots. Dark boards run hotter than timber in full sun; lighter colours stay cooler.

Each brand publishes its own BAL test result, so tell us the rating on your report and we will show you the boards that meet it.

Questions we get asked about composite decking
What is composite decking made of?
Wood fibre and recycled plastic, extruded into a board, and in most current ranges wrapped in a polymer cap that carries the colour and stain resistance. We stock Trex, TimberTech, NewTechWood, ModWood, WoodEvo, EVERTEX and Ultim8. See what composite decking is made of.
Is composite decking cheaper than timber?
The boards cost more per metre than Merbau, but they never need oiling or sanding. Over the life of the deck the maintenance saving usually closes the gap, and the frame, fixings and labour are the same either way.
Does composite decking get hot in the sun?
Dark colours do, more than timber. Lighter colours and capped boards stay noticeably cooler, so in full sun choose a mid or light tone.
Can composite decking be used in a bushfire area?
It depends on the brand. Each range publishes its own BAL test result, so tell us the rating on your report and we will show you the boards that meet it.
