70 × 35 mm ($3.21 a metre) and 90 × 35 mm ($4.28) for wall studs, noggings and ceiling battens. 70 × 45 mm ($3.86) and 90 × 45 mm ($4.90) for top and bottom plates, studs in load-bearing walls and short-span joists. 120 × 45 ($9.45), 140 × 45 ($9.80), 190 × 45 ($13.36), 240 × 45 ($20.28) and 290 × 45 mm ($24.65) for floor joists, bearers, rafters and lintels. Prices are per metre at the time of writing; the product page shows the current price for each length.
MGP10 is machine graded pine under AS/NZS 1748, which means every piece has been stress-tested and stamped, so it can be used straight from the span tables in AS 1684 without an engineer checking each stick. Radiata pine is kiln-dried, light to handle and takes nails and screws cleanly. For blocking, battens and jobs that carry no load, 70 × 35 and 70 × 45 merch grade cost less.
Treated framing for outside
Where framing is exposed to weather, in a deck frame, a pergola or a carport, use our H3 LOSP treated pine in the same 70 × 45 to 290 × 45 sizes. H3 covers timber above ground that gets wet; anything in the ground needs H4, which is where our treated posts come in.
Longer spans
When a span outgrows sawn pine, MeySPAN LVL 14 runs from 90 × 45 up to 400 × 45 mm and stays straight and consistent in a way solid timber cannot. It is the usual answer for long lintels, roof beams and deck bearers.
Flooring and bracing
STRUCTAflor Yellow Tongue 19 mm particleboard sheets go down over the joists as the structural floor, and speed brace or F22 ply brace takes care of wall bracing. Fixings, joist hangers and strapping are with our decking accessories.

Questions we get asked about framing timber
What does MGP10 mean?
Machine Graded Pine, stress grade 10. Each piece is machine tested and stamped under AS/NZS 1748, so it can be used straight from the AS 1684 span tables.
What size framing timber do I need for a wall?
90 x 35 mm studs with 90 x 45 mm plates is the common single-storey wall frame, and 70 x 35 mm suits non-load-bearing partitions. Your plans or AS 1684 set the final sizes.
Treated or untreated framing pine?
Inside the house envelope untreated MGP10 is standard. Anything exposed to weather, such as a deck frame, pergola or carport, needs H3 LOSP treated pine.
Do you cut framing timber to length?
Yes, and we deliver across Melbourne. Send the framing schedule from your plans and we will price it as a package with the least waste.
