Engineered Timber Flooring
Engineered timber flooring in Melbourne
Greenhill Timbers stocks engineered timber flooring at our showroom at 170 Settlement Road, Thomastown, with pickup or delivery across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Each board has a real hardwood wear layer, usually 2 to 6 mm thick, bonded to a plywood or HDF core that keeps it flat on a concrete slab and stable through Melbourne’s humidity swings.
The ranges
European Oak is the widest range, in the pale, smoked and reactive-stain colours most new Melbourne interiors are built around, including Grand Oak’s Everest and Chevron collections. Tudorwood Luxx 240 is a 240 mm wide board for large open rooms. Australian species cover Blackbutt, Spotted Gum and Sydney Blue Gum in an engineered format. Parquetry in herringbone and chevron blocks.
Engineered or solid?
Engineered boards suit slabs, apartments and underfloor heating, come in wider widths, and can be sanded once or twice depending on the wear layer. Solid boards need a timber subfloor and can be sanded many times. See solid timber flooring for the hardwood boards.
Installation
Glued direct to a flat, dry slab with a flexible adhesive such as Wakol or Mapei, or floated on underlay where the range allows, with a 10 mm expansion gap at the walls. Adhesives, underlay and trims are in flooring accessories.
Ordering
Bring your room sizes to the showroom, or call (03) 9465 9875, and we will work out square metres, waste and adhesive. Pickup from Thomastown or delivery across Melbourne.
Questions we get asked about engineered timber flooring
What is engineered timber flooring?
A board with a real hardwood wear layer, usually 2 to 6 mm thick, bonded to a plywood or HDF core. The core keeps the board flat on a concrete slab and in changing humidity. See our guide to engineered timber flooring.
Engineered or solid timber flooring?
Solid boards are thicker and can be sanded many times, but need a timber subfloor or battens. Engineered boards suit slabs, apartments and underfloor heating, come in wider widths and need only an adhesive or underlay.
Can engineered flooring go over underfloor heating?
Most ranges can, within the manufacturer’s surface temperature limit. Check the range before you buy; our underfloor heating guide covers the details.
How is engineered flooring installed?
Glued direct to a flat, dry slab with a flexible adhesive, or floated on underlay where the range allows. Leave a 10 mm expansion gap at the walls and cover it with skirting. Adhesives and underlay are in flooring accessories.
