Product Description

THOR Membrane Tape

THOR Membrane Tape is a low-tack tape made to work with THOR form-A-guard. It can be applied directly to clean, smooth surfaces without causing damage.

The tape is designed to remove cleanly, helping reduce the risk of sticky residue being left behind when it is removed correctly.

THOR Membrane Tape is used around the edges of the protected area, while THOR Joining Tape is used to join the sheets of form-A-guard together.

For the best results:

  • Apply the tape to a clean, dry and smooth surface.
  • Press the tape down firmly for a secure hold.
  • Check the tape if it has been in place for more than one month.
  • Remove the tape carefully after the project is complete.

THOR Membrane Tape is the ideal choice for temporary floor protection, helping protect timber flooring, tiles, vinyl flooring and other finished surfaces during construction and renovation projects.

Why Use Low-Tack Tape?

Low-tack tape helps hold floor protection in place without using a strong glue.

It is made to stick to clean, smooth surfaces and remove more easily when the job is finished. This helps lower the risk of sticky marks, glue residue or damage to the finished surface.

THOR Membrane Tape is useful because it:

  • Helps hold floor protection in place.
  • Removes cleanly when used correctly.
  • Reduces the risk of sticky residue.
  • Is safer for finished floors and smooth surfaces.
  • Works with THOR Joining Tape and form-A-guard.

Always make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying the tape. Check the tape after one month to make sure it can still be removed cleanly.

What Tape Can Be Used on Engineered Timber Flooring?

When protecting engineered timber flooring, always use a low-tack tape that is made for finished surfaces.

THOR Membrane Tape is a great choice because it is designed to stick securely while helping reduce the risk of sticky residue or damage when removed correctly.

Never use standard packing tape, duct tape or other high-tack tapes directly on finished flooring, as they can leave glue behind or damage the floor’s surface.

For the best results, use THOR Membrane Tape around the edges and THOR Joining Tape to join the sheets of THOR form-A-guard together.

Janka Rating

What Is the Janka Rating?

The Janka rating is a way to measure how hard a timber is, specifically, how much force it takes to push a small steel ball halfway into the wood. The number you get is shown in kilonewtons (kN). A higher Janka score means a harder, more durable timber. Builders and floor installers use it to work out which timbers hold up better in busy areas.

Here’s a rough guide to how some timbers sit on the scale:

  • Brazilian Walnut – around 16.0 kN
  • Spotted Gum – roughly 11.0 kN
  • Tasmanian Oak – about 5.5 kN
  • Radiata Pine – close to 3.0 kN

Keep in mind: these values can vary depending on moisture content and grain direction.

It's One Part of the Decision

Hardness is useful to know, but it’s just one factor. Janka doesn’t tell you how a timber reacts to heat or humidity, how stable it is, or how easy it is to cut and install.

Some of the hardest woods can be difficult to work with. Others, even if softer, might be more stable or forgiving on-site.

At Greenhill Timbers, we look at the whole picture, not just the numbers. All our timbers are structurally graded and covered by a 25-year guarantee. We'll help you pick something that works for your project, not just on paper.
