Spotted Gum (Corymbia maculata) is one of the hardest floors you can lay, about 11 kN on the Janka scale, with colour that runs from pale grey-brown to chocolate and a wavy grain that can show fiddleback figure.

Solid Spotted Gum
NSW Spotted Gum in Select and Standard grades from $104, QLD Spotted Gum in Feature, Select and Standard from $87, and Prime and Select Spotted Gum from $155, all in 83 × 14, 130 × 14 and 130 × 19 mm tongue-and-groove. Select has even colour with few features; Standard and Feature show more gum vein and colour range, and cost less.

Laying and finishing
Solid boards go over joists, battens or plywood; being dense, Spotted Gum wants sharp blades and pre-drilling at the ends. It takes oil and water-based polyurethane well.
