Solid Blackbutt in 83 × 14, 130 × 14 and 130 × 19 mm, in Prime, Select and Standard grades, from $104. Prime has the fewest gum veins and the most even colour; Standard shows more of the timber’s natural features. Solid boards go over joists, battens or plywood and can be sanded and refinished for decades.

Finishing and care

Blackbutt takes water-based polyurethane and oil finishes well and keeps its colour better than most hardwoods in sunlight.
