Why Choose Silvertop Ash Decking?
Silvertop Ash isn’t a flash timber, and that’s part of its appeal. It has a straight grain with light blonde to soft brown tones, giving it a clean, low-key finish. It blends in well with both older homes and newer builds, especially when the goal is to keep the look simple.
It tends to grey off nicely if left to weather, or you can apply oil or stain if you want a richer tone. Either way, it stays stable in the long run. Unlike some imported hardwoods, it doesn’t cup or split easily if installed and maintained correctly.
Built to Cope With the Outdoors
This timber holds up well in the weather. It’s rated as Class 2 for above-ground durability, which means it can last a couple of decades or more in outdoor use with normal upkeep. It also has natural resistance to termites, something you want in a deck that’s going to be exposed year-round.
Silvertop Ash Timber Decking also ticks the box for BAL 19 compliance, making it suitable for builds in areas with a moderate bushfire risk. It’s not the highest-rated fire timber out there, but for many suburban and regional builds, it’s a solid fit.
Size Options for Your Diverse Needs: 86 x 19, 135 x 19
One of the things that makes Silvertop Ash so widely used is that it’s easy to work with. It machines well, takes fixings cleanly, and holds its shape once it’s down. Pre-drilling is always a good idea, especially near board ends, but you won’t be fighting with it like you might with denser timbers.
We supply two standard decking sizes at Greenhill Timbers:
- Silvertop Ash 86×19 Decking
- Silvertop Ash 135×19 Decking
Each board is kiln-dried, end-matched, and ready for installation. Whether you’re covering a large entertaining area or patching in a section of an older deck, the sizing is flexible enough to suit.
