Natural Timber Screens
Natural Timber Screens in Melbourne
A timber screen does the work a fence cannot: privacy without a solid wall, air and light still moving through, and a warmth that aluminium never gets close to. We stock both ends of it — screens made up ready to fix, and the dressed hardwood to build your own.
Ready-made screens
Our hardwood timber screen is 900mm wide, made up from 19 × 42mm battens in Yellow Belau, a pale hardwood close to Blackbutt in tone. It suits extending an existing fence, dividing a courtyard, or cladding a plain wall to give it a face. Interior and exterior use both.
Battens and dressed hardwood
To set out your own spacing, we hold hardwood battens in three profiles — 42 × 42mm DAR, a 30 × 40 × 50mm bevelled, and a 35 × 42mm arched — all in set lengths and rated for interior or exterior. Dressed Merbau runs in 38 × 38mm and 70 × 19mm for screens, slats and external framing. Full sizes are under timber battens.
Getting the gap right
The spacing between battens decides everything. A gap narrower than the batten is depth reads as solid from an angle and open from straight on, which is what most people actually want from a privacy screen. Wider gaps let more light through but stop screening once someone is off to one side. Worth setting out on the ground before you fix anything.
