What to Expect from American Oak Flooring?
American Oak Flooring has a calm, open grain that works well in both traditional and modern builds. You wonโt see dramatic colour shifts from board to board; the tones tend to hover around light blondes, sometimes with soft golden hues. That uniformity is why itโs a go-to for flooring in homes and commercial spaces alike.
You can leave it natural, stain it dark, or apply a clear finish. It takes all of them evenly, which gives you flexibility during fit-out or refinishing down the track.
How It Performs
In terms of hardness, American Oak rates 6.0 on the Janka scale. That makes it durable enough for regular use. Think living areas, hallways, even office floors, but still easy to work with. Installers tend to like it for that reason. It machines cleanly, holds fasteners well, and doesnโt surprise you on-site.
Like most solid timbers, it will expand and contract a little with the seasons, but it settles down once acclimatised and sealed.
Sizes Available
Youโve got some flexibility when it comes to dimensions:
- 110 x 14 mm
- 130 x 14 mm
- 155 x 14 mm
- 180 x 14 mm
- 180 x 19 mm
Wider boards often get used in open-plan areas, while narrower sizes can work better in smaller rooms or older properties.
Grade Options
We offer American Oak Flooring in two grades:
- Premium Grade โ Generally smoother, with very few knots and a consistent tone.
- Standard Grade โ Shows more of the timberโs natural features like pinholes, knots, or grain variation.
The boards come tongue-and-groove, end-matched, and work with direct stick, ply-over-concrete, or batten systems.
Day-to-Day Upkeep
Once itโs in, thereโs not much to worry about. Sweep or vacuum when needed. A lightly damp mop does the trick for most cleaning. The surface holds up well, and if it gets scuffed or worn years down the line, it can be sanded and refinished.
