Why Choose Sydney Blue Gum Timber Flooring?
A Strong, Warm Presence Underfoot
If you’re after something bold but still refined, Sydney Blue Gum is hard to go past. This native hardwood has a distinctive reddish-brown colour that instantly adds warmth to a room. Its grain is usually straight and even, giving the floor a clean, uniform feel without being flat or dull.
The colour variation is part of its appeal – lighter pinkish tones blend with deeper, richer shades, making every floor just that bit different. Whether you’re updating a period home or fitting out a contemporary space, Sydney Blue Gum adapts well to most settings.
Built to Last in Busy Spaces
This timber has a Janka hardness rating of 9.0, placing it on the tougher end of the scale. That means it resists dents and scuffs better than softer species, making it a good pick for high-traffic areas like hallways, family rooms, or open-plan living spaces.
It’s also rated BAL 12.5, so it meets building requirements for homes in areas with low to moderate bushfire risk. That added fire resistance makes it more versatile for projects across regional and outer suburban areas.
Installers tend to like working with it. It’s dense, but not too tricky to machine or finish, and once laid and sealed, it holds its shape well. There’s some seasonal movement, as with any solid timber, but nothing dramatic.
Select or Standard – It’s Up to You
You can choose from two grades depending on the look you’re after:
- Select Grade – More uniform in appearance, with fewer knots and cleaner grain lines. Great if you’re going for a polished or minimalist finish.
- Standard Grade – Includes some variation, light gum veins, and natural markings that show off the timber’s character.
Both options deliver the same structural strength. It really comes down to what suits your style.
Easy to Maintain Over Time
Once finished, Sydney Blue Gum doesn’t need much upkeep. A soft broom or vacuum handles the day-to-day, and a lightly damp mop now and then will keep the surface clean. It takes a wide range of finishes well, so whether you want to highlight the red tones or soften them down, you’ve got options.
It’s the kind of floor that settles in nicely over time — warm, stable, and not demanding. If you’d like to see samples or talk through installation options, we’re always happy to help.
