Standout Features of Grey Ironbark Flooring
Tough Timber that Handles Heavy Use
Grey Ironbark has built a reputation for being one of the hardest flooring timbers on the market. It’s dense and solid underfoot, which gives it great resistance to dents, scuffing, and day-to-day wear. That makes it well-suited to hallways, open-plan living areas, and commercial fit-outs that see a lot of foot traffic.
With a Janka rating of 14.0 kN and a density of around 1120 kg/m³, you’re working with a product that’s built to last.
Natural Grain and Colour Variation
This timber ranges from dark reddish-browns to deep chocolate shades, often with a slight grey undertone depending on the board. The grain is typically tight and interlocked, which helps it present a consistent finish once installed. It’s a good fit for projects that need a stronger visual presence without looking overly busy or patterned.
Performs Well in Harsh Environments
Grey Ironbark holds a Class 1 durability rating, meaning it resists both decay and termite activity. It also meets the BAL 12.5 bushfire rating, making it suitable for properties in areas with a moderate fire risk. These features give it a reliable performance profile, particularly in exposed or rural settings.
Sizes and Profiles
We supply Grey Ironbark boards in the standard size – 130 x 14 mm.
All boards are designed to fit together easily with tongue and groove edges. They’re already prepared so you can install them directly onto the floor, on top of plywood, or over battens, ensuring a straightforward installation and a smooth finish.
Low-Maintenance Requirements
Because it’s so dense, Grey Ironbark doesn’t need much upkeep. A sweep or vacuum followed by a damp mop is usually enough to keep it clean. You won’t need to recoat or oil it often; the finish tends to hold up well over time.
